If you get involved in a car accident, besides seeking medical attention and contacting the police, one of the first things you should consider is taking photos. It is very common for both people to tell a different story of what happened or for the other driver to lie about their involvement. If you have pictures, it can go a long way toward supporting your claims when dealing with insurance companies or seeking financial compensation.
But how should you take those photos? Here are three examples.
1. Identifying information
Start by quickly taking pictures so that you can identify the other vehicle and the driver. For instance, you might take a picture of their driver’s license, insurance paperwork and license plate. You’re supposed to exchange information at the scene anyway, and this is one way to do it.
2. Take pictures of damage or injuries
Next, try to photograph any specific damage to the vehicle or injuries that people have suffered. This helps to show the severity and demonstrates that those things did happen in the car accident itself.
3. Take pictures of the crash scene
Finally, you may need to prove that the other driver was at fault, so it can be helpful to take pictures of the scene. This shows where the cars were positioned after the crash and helps to illustrate how and why the accident occurred. If the other driver tells a much different story, your pictures can prove that they are lying.
